Here’s why we love this Midnight Macadamia Date Trail Mix. Let me tell you, it’s not just how easy it is to put together. Here are a few highlights about what these ingredients do for your growing bump:

  • Potassium And Magnesium: Leg cramps are common during pregnancy. One solution: adding more potassium and magnesium-rich foods to your diet. A handful of almonds and macadamias makes an easy, satisfying option. Macadamia nuts especially offer a healthy portion of that leg cramp preventing potassium.
  • Dates For Shortening Labor: Eating dates (about six per day) starting around 36–37 weeks of pregnancy has been shown to help support cervical ripening, which may be linked to shorter labor, a reduced need for induction or augmentation, and a higher chance of spontaneous labor. Dates work by helping prepare the body gradually—not by triggering labor right away. Their fiber, magnesium, and natural prostaglandins support muscle function and cervical changes, encouraging a smoother labor process when your body is truly ready, rather than forcing labor to start suddenly.
  • Long Lasting Energy+High Protein: Did you know that close to half of pregnant mothers don’t get enough protein in pregnancy? Getting enough protein to fuel the body and the development of the baby is a great way to move better, sleep better and support the baby’s development.

This recipe works best as a nutrient-dense snack or supplement to a meal. Keep this trail mix within reach for those moments you’re tempted by a quick morning Pop-Tart, an afternoon bag of chips, or a late-night ice cream craving. Swap in this nutrient-packed snack and fuel your body with healthy fats, protein, and natural energy instead of empty calories. Your body—and your cravings—will thank you for the upgrade.

How To Make Midnight Macadamia Date Trail Mix

This Midnight Macadamia Date Trail Mix could not be easier to make:

  • Sweeten the macadamia nuts. Macadamia nuts have a high fat content and a delicate, buttery texture, which makes them ideal for roasting without drying out. Their natural sweetness intensifies with heat, creating a rich, flavorful snack. Compared to almonds and walnuts, which can become bitter or overly hard when roasted, macadamias roast evenly and stay tender and creamy. Plus, when you add the maple syrup, the sweetness is pure indulgence.
  • Next, chop the dates. Its much easier to throw this together if you purchased pre-chopped dates. However, since I always have fresh dates in the house, I chopped what I had. Watch out, these do stick together. You will have to layer them in as you mix the trail mix.
  • Combine it all together. Once the macadamias are roasted, layer together the ingredients and give your container a little shake. You’re officially done making this 5-minute to prep snack.

Simply keep your container of trail mix anywhere you will remember you made it. It makes an excellent snack to keep on hand when you are out and about, when you’re swamped with work or when you are lacking the energy to make a full meal

Make Ahead And Meal Prep This Recipe

Homemade trail mix, like one made with roasted macadamias, almonds, walnuts, coconut, dates, and dark chocolate, typically stays fresh for about 2 to 4 weeks when stored at room temperature in an airtight container. Storing it in the refrigerator can extend its shelf life to 2 to 3 months by helping prevent the nuts’ fats from going rancid. If you freeze it in a properly sealed container, it can last six months or longer, although the texture of the chocolate and coconut may change slightly. For best quality, keep the mix in a cool, dry, dark place and avoid exposure to heat or humidity, which can accelerate spoilage.
