Giving Birth And Becoming A Mother So Dramatically And Beautifully Changed My Life.
That I've become obsessed with helping others to create a birth they love. A birth where they feel safe, seen, heard and empowered.
But the change from feeling overwhelmed and scared about birth, to finding it one of life's most defining and beautiful moments, didn't happen overnight.
The transformation wasn't an overnight change. But a journey involving loss, heartache, growth and ultimate joy.
But was it worth it?

2011
Graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors in Economics.
It's here that I fell in love with numbers, and how the information they give us can shape our public and personal health. Ultimately, I landed at an investment bank, but I always dreamed of coming back to the space where data and health collide.
Thank you Grandma for always believing in me!
2012
I announced my first pregnancy + experienced my first difficulties with getting the care I needed. I ultimately lost this pregnancy + experienced a year of medical complications following. I am eternally grateful to the care teams who recognized my rare symptoms and took care of me when I needed it.
2014
I delivered my daughter Zoe by emergency c-section. My overwhelming feeling was "This is hard and scary. Birth is dangerous." You can hear me talk about my birth experiences on the What You Didn't Expect Podcast.
In both my experiences so far, I struggled. I didn't have a base knowledge of what was normal and what was not in pregnancy and birth. So it was difficult for me to ask questions, voice my worries and feel like an active participant in the birth process itself.
2014 ctd.
I joined a moms group where I became friends with a student midwife. She changed my definition of quality care and opened my eyes to how different birth could be when it is given.
To this day I believe quality care requires trust. And trust = authenticity, empathy, logic and follow through.
When we apply these principles to birth, we simply get better outcomes for everyone. Today, as a patient advocate and doula, I love helping moms develop this type of relationship with their care providers.
2015 -2018
I spent the next several years leading Hike It Baby groups. I met hundreds of moms and realized my experiences, though rough, were actually not so bad. I felt deeply that there was both a need for change and a path to better, safer births.
I was riveted by the stories I heard here and felt compelled to be a part of the change. I wanted a safer world for my own daughter when she grew up.
I strongly believe that one piece of the puzzle to better care is helping moms develop knowledge and skills that allow them to enter the birth process with more confidence.
2018
I delivered my second daughter Hazel and had the most incredible and powerful experience + wrote my first book Divine Birth, a collection of inspiration to help moms work through their anxieties and fears about birth. (Yep, I delivered her in the water - my midwife is right behind us, you just can't see her.)
2019-Present
I began my doula certification with Births Arts International whom I am still certified with today. I also founded She Births Bravely, an organization aimed at providing moms quality information, compassionate care and support through pregnancy and the first 6 months after birth.
Since Then, I Have Been A Doula For Over 200 Births Taking Place In Hospitals, Homes And Birth Centers.
I have also set up over 200 labor tubs for home births, taught hundreds in my birth course. And, the 100+ articles I've written on this little website? They have reached over a million moms. I am currently working on my next book about inductions and am still attending births every month. Yes, I am on the go a lot.
(On a personal note, I also reshaped my family, uncoupled from the father of my children and then met and fell in love with my soulmate.) These years have been busy and full!
